One of our school values is communication and it is so important to have clear, two way communication between home and school. This supports students in their learning and allows a team approach in the education and care of all.

It can be very frustrating when your child struggles at school and it is natural to want to resolve any issues as quickly as posssible.  Like any organisation, schools have processes in place that are designed to facilitate clear communication and resolve issues for children and families and working with these processes is the clearest course of action. 

We know that things don't always go smoothly but talking to the person who can help in the first instance is the best starting point and in most cases this is the classroom or subject teacher.  Unfortunately going directly to the principal or other members of leadership is not usually the best first step and often delays the resolution or communication process. 

If you find communication with the teacher breaks down, then it is reasonable to approach the school and make a time to speak with the relevant member of the leadership team.   The school's Grievance Policy also provides information on resolving issues of conflict or concern.

We are in the midst of creating a school vision and are working with groups of staff, students and parents/caregivers to ensure all of our community voice is heard.  A school vision statement is a collective expression of the school’s aspirations which is concise and easy to recall. It is essentially a value statement which summarises the moral purpose of the school and reflects a set of shared values. I look forward to sharing our school vision statement with everyone, once this process is completed.

Pimpala will be hosting Principal Tours on 2 occasions each term for anyone interested in enrolling at our school.  The tours will be held at 10:00am and 4:30pm on the following dates, two tours per term.  Zoning will be discussed as part of the tour.  Please ring the school on 8326 0900 to book in for one of the tours.  We look forward to meeting you.

We need your support! Father’s Day is on Sunday, 1st September and this is coming around very quickly.  We are seeking donations of new items for our Father’s Day Stall.  Please bring any donations of new items to the Front Office so we can prepare them for sale at the Father's Day Stall.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

The school Fathers’ Day Stall will be held on Wednesday, 28^th August where students will have the opportunity to purchase gifts on a class by class basis during the day.  The stall will also be open after school and both before and after school on Thursday, 29^th August.

Optional Three Way Conferences will be available from Monday, August 26th until Wednesday August 28th from 3:30pm - 5:00pm or at other negoiated times.  This is an opportunity to clarify details in student reports which were sent home at the end of Term 2.  Student reports contain goals to work on and items as a future focus.

Bookings will open at 9:00am on Friday, 16th August.  To book a Three Way Conference you must register for Schoolzine.  Please go to the Apple App store or Google Play store to download the SZapp if you haven't already done so.  

We will send an email/message with the link to the Three Way Conference bookings later this week.

The Amazing Magic Mike is a well known figure in Adelaide with great reviews from other schools and private functions and is always lots of fun for the kids.

Come dressed in your favourite, flashiest, funnest pyjamas.  There will be prizes for the best dressed.

The cost of the Disco is $5 per person and includes a glow stick, pop-top drink and a bag of chips.

Tickets are on sale now!  Please bring your ticket on the night.  

Tickets will be available for sale at the venue too but we would much prefer you prepay.

Payments can be made on the Qkr! app or at the Finance Window.

There will be a School Closure Day on Friday, 30th August to coincide with the Royal Adelaide Show.  This will be followed by a Student Free Day on Monday, 2nd September to enable staff to undertake Professional Development.

It will be a great place to spend the time from when you drop your children to class and the actual parade start time.

"Reading Is My Secret Power"

Book Week is the longest running children's festival in Australia.  It is an annual event celebrated by schools and local community libraries to promote books and reading.  Each year the Children's Book Council of Australia selects books written or illustrated by Australian authors to be sortlisted in a book competition. These books can be recognised by the bronze circle on them.  All classes have been exposed to some of these books.

On Thursday,  22nd August, a highlight of our Book Week celebrations will include a Book Week Parade at 9:30am.  Parent, grandparents and special friends are invited to our special "Reading is My Secret Power" Book Week Parade. 

Skye Keller, the Pastoral Support Worker will be in the Stephanie Alexander Dining Room from 8:30am on the day so please come and say hello.  Tea and coffee will be available.

The parade will be held under the COLA and will showcase the children, and maybe some teachers, dressed up in costumes / masks based on the characters or storyline from the shortlisted book chosen by each class.  The costumes will be made in class and will just add a bit of fun to the morning.  

We look forward to seeing everyone at the parade.

On Monday 9^th September students from Mrs Lang and Mrs Idzikowski’s classes will be attending an incursion from Animals Anonymous.

Animals Anonymous is a mobile team of wildlife demonstrators and environmentalist educators.

Students will learn about native animals related to our theme this term. The show is very hands on and children will have the opportunity to interact with most of the animals.

The cost for the incursion will be $11.00 per student.

Payments can be made through the QKR! App.

Many people are finding this Winter quite cold and harsh.  But imagine how it would feel to be homeless! Most times homelessness is just a set of circumstances that didnt' work out too well.  The causes can be anything and can range from a catastrophic event, domestic violence, addictions including gambling or drugs and often mental health plays a big part. Regardless of how people have come to their current circumstances we would like to help in a small way.

We have contacted the Hutt Street Centre to find out how we can best help and they have advised the following information.

Thanks to all the generous people who have recently dropped off winter goods, our limited storage area is
now packed to the rafters!

We need to press ‘PAUSE’ on donations of jackets, clothing and blankets while these goods are distributed to
those doing it tough this winter. HOWEVER, our kitchen pantry shelves are a little bare and we 
would gratefully accept donated food items.

If you do have jackets you’d like to drop off, our good friends at Peter Shearer Menswear are kindly
accepting them for us in their Winter Jacket Appeal.

By donating the specific items from our wish list below, you are helping people facing disadvantage
rebuild their lives, move and stay out of homelessness – THANK YOU.

In Term 4 we are planning to make donations to the a Homeless Women's Charity and will be looking for donations of handbags and toiletries etc for those.  Please read future editions of our newsletter for more information about this.

Karen Campbell's recommended Hot Read is a book by Lane Smith called "It's a Book".

The book is about someone explaining what a book is to someone that is always on technology. It is a short picture book which has been turned into a short YouTube video.

Karen as our Library SSO, can appreciate the irony of the story and finds it exceptionally funny.

The book is a Premier's Reading Challenge book.
