It is a very exciting time at Pimpala, we have our Year 4 students participating in Bike Ed on Friday's, our 6/7's participated in an excursion to showcase their learning at Reynella South Primary School and as of tomorrow we will be welcoming our 2022 Receptions for transition visits.
I would also like to acknowledge and thank The Smith Family for organising and supporting our Year 6/7 students to attend a University Experience Day at Flinders University tomorrow on November 2. Students will be provided with the opportunity to meet with current Flinders University students and staff and experience a variety of activities. We are really looking forward to this experience and this would not be possible without the continued support from The Smith Family.
The library is currently closed for renovation but the new carpet has been installed and the walls have all been freshly painted. It will be opening again soon and I know our students are very excited to see the changes. We will keep you updated and let you know when it is reopening.
I would like to remind our community that they are invited to our Governing Council meeting on Wednesday Night at 7:00pm in the STEM building to discuss the proposed Materials and Services charge. If you would like to attend please let the Administration Office know.
I look forward to seeing you all in the next few weeks and can’t wait to celebrate a very successful year at our End of Year Celebration on Wednesday, December 1.
As always thank you for all of your ongoing support this year.
We welcome our 2022 Reception students for their transition visits for the next 3 Tuesdays:
November 2 from 9:00am - 10:40am;
November 9 from 9:00am - 11:30am; and
November 16 from 9:00am - 12 noon.
Planning is continuing and we have started to allocate students to classes for next year. We ask that if you will not be returning to Pimpala in 2022 that you advise the class teacher or the Administration Office as soon as possible. Thank you to those families who have advised us of your plans.
We appreciate that some students may be on a waiting list for another school or there may be a job in the pipeline that would mean a move to a new suburb or interstate, however, we would appreciate this information so we can work on Plan A, Plan B etc. We are looking at class configurations and need accurate numbers for each year level to plan for the best possible scenarios. Even if you are not 100% sure yet that you are moving, it would be great to know this information for when we are looking at friendship groups for next year. Please talk to us.

Dear Parents/Caregivers,
During Week 7 of next term, students in Reception - Years 4 will be attending swimming lessons at the Noarlunga Aquatic and Recreation Centre. These lessons are part of the Education Department Swimming and Aquatics program which provides swimming and water safety lessons to all students in Government primary schools.
Reception to Year 2 students are entitled to 3.45 hours per year of free swimming instruction, equating to 5 x 45 minute lessons.
Year 3- Year 4 students are entitled to 7.5 hours per year of free swimming instruction, equating to 5 x 90 minute lessons.
Please note that the swimming instruction provided by the Education Department Swimming and Aquatics program is free. The fees cover the cost of transport of students to and from the Noarlunga Aquatic and Recreation Centre and the pool entry fees.
Swimming fees must be paid in full prior to the program commencing. The total cost of the program for 2021 is $40.00 per student and is payable by Monday, 15 November.
You must complete the paper water safety consent form for Swimming as this form must be given to the Noarlunga Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
We have kept costs as low as possible. Please note: students undertaking the swimming lessons cannot make private arrangements for travel or pool entry as the costs are based on everyone paying for the buses and entry fees. If your child is sick and you want a full refund, a medical certificate is required. Part refunds will not be given.
As swimming and water safety are included as part of the Australian Curriculum, all students are required to participate. If for financial reasons this timeline proves difficult, please speak to Helen, the Finance Officer as soon as possible to arrange a payment plan.
Please ensure all Health Care Plans are up to date and that medications are within their use-by date. Each fortnight teachers identify students who have demonstrated the school values of Responsibility, Respect and Resilience to a high standard and nominate them to receive an award - usually at the Assembly. Awards are only awarded when the values are observed and deserved so some weeks there may be more and some weeks less awards.
Congratulations to the students who received an award at the assembly held on Thursday, 28 October, 2021. Great work!

Christmas Giving for Our Community
In recent past years, Pimpala has co-ordinated donations of canned and non-perishable food, decorations and presents for distribution to needy families. These items are used to make hampers for the less fortunate in our community. We are very grateful to be able to organise this.
If you are aware of anyone in our community who is doing it tough and who would benefit from a hamper, can you please let leadership or administration staff know
Let’s make it a great time for everyone this Christmas by bringing something to help struggling families. Please bring items including canned food, packet food, decorations or unwrapped new presents and toys to the Administration Office.
Staying safe and seeking help – Squid Games
After speaking about online safety at assembly last week our Department has alerted us to ongoing concerns regarding student viewing which we are sharing with our community.
Some of you may be aware of the Netflix series Squid Games.
Squid Games is a South Korean Netflix series where characters compete in well-known children’s games with sometimes extreme and violent outcomes. There are reports that children have been acting out these games in the school yard and on Social Media platforms.
The series is rated MA 15+ in Australia. Under the government’s classifications and advisory category, children under the age of 15 may not legally watch, buy or hire MA 15+ rated material unless they are in the company of a parent or adult guardian.
If your child/ren have not seen the series it is possible they have seen aspects of it on social media. If they have seen the series or aspects of it, we encourage you to monitor their reactions and engage in open and honest conversations about the content and their online activity.
If this series has triggered any concerns for your child/ren, the following supports are available:
Kids helpline: 1800 55 1800
Lifeline: 13 11 14
https://eheadspace.org.au
If you have any questions about the information above, please get in touch with your child’s class teacher, one of our para-professional support staff or one of our leadership team.
Regards
Judy Beal, Deputy Principal
