Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Update Term 3
Although the weather has not been kind this term with lessons constantly disrupted by cold, wet and windy weather the Year 4/5 classes enthusiastically embraced the kitchen garden program.
Students participated in garden activities such as sowing seeds, planting out seedlings, composting, mulching, lots of weeding, planting new trees in the bush tucker garden, erecting a new shade house, scarecrow making, contributing photos and reflections to the school newsletter and of course harvesting fresh garden produce for our cooking lessons.
Thank you to the wonderful volunteers that assisted our master chef’s cook up a storm in the kitchen. Students followed procedures, prepared recipes using a variety of techniques and tasted some new and interesting dishes using our own freshly grown garden produce.

Lunch Time Garden Club has been a very popular program with students again this term. Tasks such as mulching, weeding, seed propagating, seed saving, art activities are available for students to help out with under the supervision of myself and Ms Kaye. If students don’t want to participate in garden activities they are welcome to play in the nature play area, bring a friend or a book and sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of our garden.
Week 10, students from the Pimpala Leadership Group “Peer Mentors” will assist in hosting a garden lesson for the Pimpala Kindergarten students. We are very excited to meet our special visitors and I’m sure they will enjoy participating in some fun and engaging gardening activities.
Thank you to some of our wonderful families this term who kindly donated lemons and oranges. These donations are very much appreciated.
Term 4 will see the Year 3/4 classes participate in the kitchen garden program. We will be requiring lots of helpers for our kitchen classes. If you have completed the RAN-EC Training and have a current DCSI/DHS clearance we would love your help. Please ring or message me of your availability.
