Governing Council held its inaugural Trivia Night fundraiser on Saturday 22 June and it was a wonderful success.  The final amount raised is anticipated to be over $2200 and while this is a step in the right direction for our Nature Play space, the value in our community spirit and relationships is immeasurable. Thank you to everyone who supported us with donations of goods, money and time. A big thank you to Woodcroft College for the use of their venue; to Rick, Jade, Christine, Dannii and Anna, with Governing Council for their work on and leading up to the night, and to Belinda, Helen, Kylie and Trish for their huge behind the scenes efforts.  It is said that it takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a village to run a Trivia Night.  Can't wait for next year!

The results of our External School Review have been published and the report is now available to read through our school website. Our next step is to develop a School Vision which is a clear statement of what the school is trying to achieve so that everyone can work together. The vision needs to capture the aims of our school in its particular context, guide and inform planning, and help to develop a common language for effective communication. There will be opportunities for staff, students and families to contribute their thoughts during this development process throughout Term 3. Dates will be published through the newsletter, Schoolzine App notifications and Facebook.

The school is saying a reluctant but temporary goodbye to our Deputy Principal, Mrs. Belinda Finlay -Smith as she prepares for the birth of her second child.  The school is in the process of appointing a replacement Deputy Principal and will share the details once the position is confirmed.  We wish Belinda, Justin and Mitchell much joy and happiness and look forward to visits after their new addition arrives.

Please stay safe and enjoy the term break with loved ones. Term 3 promises to bring improved weather and plenty of opportunities for learning.

The first assembly on Friday 26 July will be a whole school assembly where our new R-2 SRC Representatives for terms 3 and 4 will be presented with their badges. Our Choir Captains will also be officially presented with their leadership badges in this assembly.

On Saturday, 6th July there will be building works undertaken in the Junior Primary Unit to repair the flooring in Ms Howlett's classroom under asbestos conditions.  This means that no-one is allowed on site on this date.

Please note:  Although there will be early dismissal on Friday, 5^th July at 2:10pm students attending Session 3 of swimming lessons will not return to school until approximately 2:55pm.  Session 3 lessons run from 1:00pm to 2:30pm.

If necessary, parents will be able to collect their students at the pool.  Please let the teacher know if you plan to do this.

School will finish at 2:10pm on Friday, 5th July, the last day of Term 2.

Well what an exciting term it has been with the Receptions, Year 1 and Year 2 classes participating in the kitchen garden program!!

Students enthusiastically embraced garden activities such as garden detectives, seed saving, recycling, propagating winter seeds, watering, garden art and harvesting fresh garden produce for our cooking lessons.

Thank you to the wonderful volunteers that assisted our mini master chef’s cook up a storm in the kitchen. Students followed procedures, prepared and tasted a variety of recipes using our own freshly grown garden produce. Students also set tables, washed and dried dishes and learnt all about using beautiful restaurant manners in our Pimpala Dining room.

• Roasted Pumpkin Dip, Herb, Cheese and Onion Twists, Apple and Cinnamon Cupcakes/Rainbow Fruit Skewers
• Silver beet Dip, Pasta with a no cook pasta sauce and Apple and Cinnamon Popcorn.

Lunch Time Garden Club has been a very popular program with students again this term.  Tasks such as mulching, weeding, watering, seed propagating, seed saving, artwork and composting are available for students to help out with under the supervision of myself and Ms Kaye. If students don’t want to participate in garden activities they are welcome to bring a friend or a book and sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of our beautiful garden.

Thank you to some of our wonderful families this term who kindly donated apples, lemons, limes, packets of seeds as well as some organic liquid fertiliser. These donations are very much appreciated.

Last term our garden was broken into. The fence and shed doors were cut and any items of value were stolen. It was very upsetting, disheartening and frustrating for not only myself but also for students and staff.  Thankfully we are very lucky enough to have such a wonderful school community. We have had some lovely offers of help and offers to replace some of the stolen items. Bunnings Noarlunga have been kind enough to donate a ladder and a wheel barrow full of goods. They were alerted to our plight from one of our lovely parents who is a Bunnings employee. Thank you to everyone for your support and responses. With the help of Bunnings we are slowly replacing all of the items that were stolen.

Term 3 will see the Year 4/5 classes participate in the kitchen garden program. If you have completed the RAN-EC Training for volunteers and have a current DCSI clearance to work with children we would love your help! Please ring or message me of your availability.

We are planning a student disco on Thursday, 29th August after school, the day before the School Closure Day on Friday, 30th August.  Further information will be provided next term but put this date in your diary!

Sometimes accidents happen and we have been experiencing quite a few recently. Our supply of underwear and small pants (size 4,5,6) have now all gone. If you have some spare pants or underwear in good condition in these sizes, that you no longer need, we would really appreciate it if you could donate these items to the school. It’s always a great idea to also keep a spare pair of underwear and pants in your child’s backpack as sometimes they are uncomfortable wearing the spares we have at school and can get quite embarrassed.

Pimpala will be hosting Principal Tours on 2 occasions each term for anyone interested in enrolling at our school.  The tours will be held at 10:00am and 4:30pm on the following dates, two tours per term.  Zoning will be discussed as part of the tour.  Please ring the school on 8326 0900 to book in for one of the tours.  We look forward to meeting you.

My favourite colour used to be blue or purple, but this year it’s green. I’m loving spending time in my garden and outside noticing all of the different shades ad tones of green.

Thai green chicken curry. I love it! I think the chilli might be addictive.

My music tastes are varied. I like all sorts of music but my favourite band or group to listen to is Mumford and Sons.

Reading is one of my loves. I attend a book club each month so I get to talk about the books I read with some interesting people.

I love playing card games and board games. I don’t have a particular favourite.

If I could start over, I think I’d be a civil engineer. I love the built environment, particularly bridges.

My favourite year of students to teach is the year I am teaching now: 1s and 2s. I have actually loved every class and year level I have taught. There are great things about kids of all ages. Year 1s and 2s are very rewarding to teach as they have had a year to settle into school and are ready to learn.

I love teaching literacy. We could spend all day teaching literacy as there are so many components that are all vital and interesting.

I’d love to take my daughters to England to see my sister and her family, as well as my other friends and relatives over there. England has so many places of interest and geographically diverse places to visit. I wouldn’t want to go there in winter though!

Student reports will be sent home on Friday, 5th July with the student.  If your child is not at school on that day, reports will be posted during the holidays.  Please make sure we have your current address on file.

Term 3 commences on Monday, 22nd July.

The canteen will be closed during Week 10, 1st - 5th July due to the resignation of the Canteen Manager.  A new Canteen Manager will be appointed during the school holidays and it is expected that lunch orders will recommence on Friday, 26th July.

Father’s Day is on Sunday, 1st September.  Time is creeping up on us so we are seeking donations of new items for our Father’s Day Stall.  Please bring any donations of new items to the Front Office.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

The Fathers’ Day Stall will be held on Wednesday, 28^th August where students will have the opportunity to purchase gifts on a class by class basis during the day.  The stall will also be open after school and both before and after school on Thursday, 29^th August.
