Welcome back to all of our Pimpala Primary School community to Term 2. It’s been a really different and difficult time lately and I thank everyone for their support and energy as we traverse such unknown territory. Our students have made me so proud by stepping up to the challenge of being independent and dedicated learners, whether at home or at school. This demonstrates incredible resilience and commitment to learning. I thank all of our parents, guardians and family members who have supported and encouraged our students in continuing their learning journey and look forward to seeing where this work will lead us through the year.
On a personal note, I want to thank the amazing staff at Pimpala Primary School for the incredible way they worked together and supported each other not only last term but moving into this term. I want to publicly thank Mr. Richard Kemp for stepping into my shoes so I could be with my mum, who recently died from pancreatic cancer. The time I had with her is irreplaceable, as are the precious memories I have of her.
As we approach Mother’s Day this year, it will be with a difference for many of us due to the physical distancing rules in place for our safety. At school we have been unable to conduct our Mother’s Day stall so, in memory of my mum, I am setting a challenge for our students to create something as a dedication to their mum or, their grandma, older sister or person they think of as a mother figure. This creation can be written, drawn, built or composed - the only rules are it must be original and must be the work of the creator.
All entries need to be received by 9.30am Friday, 8th April for consideration by a panel of judges that morning. These creations do not need to be large or lengthy, they just need to come from the heart. The winning creation will receive a Willow Tree figurine to give to their special person for Mother’s Day on Sunday, 10th May.
Happy Mother's Day to all our mums and mother figures this Sunday.
Kind Regards
Penny Wilde

Message from the Pastoral Care Worker
Dear Pimpala Primary School Community,
Welcome to term 2 -
I imagine this term may look a bit different than school has looked before and this may also may also change in coming weeks.
This is a difficult and tricky time for everyone and we all feel different levels of anxiety, stress and ways we are managing and coping with the changes.
I have 4 children and 1 of my children for health reasons did 5 years of school online - it was a very different experience for her as a student and me as a parent than when my other children attended school - it came with different challenges, and different routines - and that wasn’t during a national health crisis.
So please everyone be kind to yourself.
SELF CARE is a must for all - rest, relaxation, moving, healthy food, hydration, laughing, connecting with those you care about and whatever helps to keep you centred are of utmost importance.
As a PCW my role is about well-being for staff, students and their families - and I definitely want to be available for you at this time.
I will be available if families want to connect with me. You can contact the school at any time, and they will let me know to call you if you need any assistance at all, or with practical resources or guidance to community resources.
Here are some things to help with this stressful time.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is simply acknowledging and being in the present moment. This can help you or your child with anxiety, sleep better, improve ability to pay attention, regulate emotions, make better decisions and support overall health. It can be breathing exercises, yoga, stillness and quiet time.

Mindful Parenting (Australian Childhood Foundation 2012)
Mindful Parenting is a resource booklet developed for parents by the Australian Childhood Foundation as part of The Bringing Up Great Kids program. The program uses ideas of mindfulness to support parents to enhance patterns of communication with their children, and encourage the development of children’s positive self-identity. Absence Procedure/Home Schooling Procedure
Students attending school must follow the regular protocols including being in class by 8:50am each day. Any parent of a student who is absent at this time, and the school hasn't been advised of any reason for the absence, will be sent a text message asking for a reason, usually by 9:30am.
Home-schooled students must login to Seesaw everyday. Failure to check in will result in the student being marked absent. You have until approximately 2pm to make contact. A text message will be sent to parents of any students who have not made contact with the teacher, to ask for a reason, closer to the end of the school day.
We are pleased to announce the Nature Play - Phase 1 area will be open for play from Tuesday, 5th May (weather permitting). This area has been made possible by the amazing fundraising our school has undertaken over the last 2 years as well as through a $10,000 grant through the Australian Government's Local School's Community Fund.
The students will love this new addition to our play area and have been planning how it should be used and any rules we need to put in place in readiness for tomorrow's opening.
The Scholastic Book Club is not sending out paper catalogues this term due to COVID-19 and instead have a virtual catalogue online. This is the link: https://scholastic.com.au/book-club/virtual-catalogue-1/
If you would like to order from the catalogue you can do so through the Scholastic Book Club LOOP. This is the link for that: https://mybookclubs.scholastic.com.au/Parent/Login.aspx
Here is the link for instructions about ordering through LOOP.
All orders need to be in by the end of the day, Sunday, 17th May..
All the books ordered will be delivered to the students unless they are marked as a GIFT. If the student is being home schooled or the order is a GIFT we will ring the parent for them to be picked up at the office.
If you have any queries about this, please see Karen in the Library.
Your Student Mentors have met twice so far and have some news they want to share.
Music - there will be music at lunch times, usually on Tuesday and Wednesdays but sometimes on other days too!!
Buddy Benches - There will be at least one Student Mentor on duty every recess break as well as all recess and lunch breaks on a Friday. As Student Mentors we will help students who are having trouble finding friends or are just upset. Come and say hello to us when you see us wearing a bright orange vest!
