This year is the first for Pimpala Primary School trialling NAPLAN online. It has not been without hiccups, and the first few days were definitely very trying for everyone involved, particularly our students. To their credit, all of our students persevered and demonstrated strength in our School Values of Excellence, Responsibility, Communication and Respect. We still have this week to complete the online process and should receive our data earlier, as a result. A big thank you to Mrs. Finlay Smith for her skilful problem solving and ability to remain calm under pressure when things have not gone to plan.
Next week is Reconciliation Week. This year's focus is 'Grounded in Truth: Walk Together in Courage.' Each class will be participating in a range of activities to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore what we can contribute to promoting reconciliation in Australia under the guidance of our Aboriginal Education teacher, Ms. Yates. We look forward to seeing some of the activities and work completed during the week, in the coming newsletters.
This Friday more than half of our school (with some very excited students and staff) will be attending 'The Gruffalo' as part of the Dream Big Festival. Thank you to Mrs. Stanley for organising this wonderful opportunity for our Junior Primary team.
Kind Regards
Penny Wilde
Principal

As part of our excursion students will be able to check out their artwork on display in the Adelaide Festival Theatre that artist in residence, Elyas Alavi created with students. This term Elyas introduced students to various painting techniques whilst they explored the use different materials to create beautiful artworks.
Students will also attend a fascinating hands on workshop called Co-Investigators of Creativity in the SAHMRI building where they will learn how art can be a powerful tool for changing the way we think and feel. After lunch they will attend an hour long performance called Robot Song, a production that incorporates live animation and video into an interactive performance about a robotic hand that learns to feel.
On the day students will be leaving by bus from school at 9.00am and will return to school at around 2.45pm. The cost for the excursion will be $13.00 per student, which covers the entry fee for the performance and the bus cost, which has been heavily subsidised, courtesy of the Dream BIG Festival organisers.

Mr Kemp
If you could only eat one more meal in your life what would it be?
Something Mexican because I like the spice in it.
Who’s your favourite celebrity and how did you find out about them?
David Beckham because I love how good he used to be at soccer and I love the way he treats his family.
Do you have a dream car and why would you pick that car over other cars?
I don’t understand enough about cars so just anything that works without needing to be repaired all the time, is cheap to run and is good for the environment.
If you could have some time off school to go on a holiday where would you go and who would you go with?
Somewhere hot and with water slides.
What’s your favourite subject to teach and why?
Maths because it’s so creative and because kids can become the most incredible learners when they succeed at maths.
If you didn’t have a job at a school what would you want to be?
Someone who would be able to renovate houses and to be something like a real-estate agent too.
